I discovered photojournalism for myself at CSUB. I remember signing up for the photojournalism class thinking, “this will be great/a breeze, since I am a photographer already, blah blah.”
Well, I didn’t know what the heck photojournalism was, in reality, and this class along with joining The Runner newspaper staff, really made everything click for me. I knew I enjoyed taking “candid” photos more than anything else, but it was learning about elements in a photograph to help tell a story, that ultimately made me fall in love with the genre.
On the second day of class I signed up to be a staff photographer for the campus newspaper and the rest, as they say, is history. I am now the photo editor for The Runner and it’s been a great experience.
